SQLJobMan

version: 1.0.3.0

last updated: 26 August 2002

platform: SQL Server 2000 running Windows NT 4.0 and higher

Description:

The SQL Agent Job Manager is a utility that allows you access to all SQL Agent related functionality, without having to use SQL Enterprise Manager. However since it uses SQL-DMO and the SQL Namespace objects it does require these to be installed.

It provides 3 basic views: jobs, operators or alerts. Views can be switch using the View menu option of via Ctrl+Shift+A for Alerts, Ctrl-Shift-O for Operators and Ctrl-Shift-J for Jobs.

Screenshots:

Job view (Ctrl-Shift-J)

Operator view (Ctrl-Shift-O)

Alert view (Ctrl-Shift-A)

You can view and change properties create and delete jobs, alerts and operators, via the right click menu. Jobs can also be started, stopped and view the history.

Double clicking on a row in the grid, shows the property page for the viewed object type.

  2. Copy the SQLJobMan.exe file to location of preference, you can place it in the SQL Server tools location if you want which is

For SQL Server 2000 the default location is "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn"

Uninstall:

To remove SQLJobMan from a system follow these instructions:

  1. Run SQLJobMan.exe -UnInstall, this will remove the Registry values under
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SQLDev.Net\SQL Job Manager\1.0

  2. Delete the SQLJobMan.exe file

Version and platform support:

SQLJobMan is build using C++ using SQL-DMO and the SQL Namespace objects. The later implies that by default this tool can not function on a MSDE installation, since the SQL Namespace Objects are not part of the MSDE redist.

SQLJobMan is tested and supported on:

  • SQL Server 2000 (including all available service packs), running on Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP

  • MSDE 2000 with SQL Namespace objects installed (requires SQL Server Client Access License, which is NOT included), running on Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP

SQLJobMan is supported but not tested on:

  • SQL Server 2000 running on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition or Windows Me

  • MSDE 2000 with SQL Namespace objects installed (requires SQL Server Client Access License, which is NOT included), running on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition or Windows Me

SQLJobMan is NOT supported or tested in any way or form on:

  • SQL Server 7.0 running on Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP

  • SQL Server 7.0 or 2000 running on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition or Windows Me

  • MSDE 1.0 running on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition or Windows Me

  • MSDE 2000 running on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition or Windows Me

  • SQL Server 7.0 running on the Alpha processor

Known limitations:

  • Currently SQL Server 7.0 is not supported, which is more a testing than a tools issue, it should be able to be recompiled using the SQL Server 7.0 SQL-DMO and SQL Namespace objects and it should work unchanged

Planned functionality enhancements:

  • Add SQL Server 7.0 support

  • Other suggestions, ideas, please send email to ideas

Realized functionality enhancements:

  • First release, based on idea/request from Andy Ball (Windows MVP)

  • Added timer based refresh for job status (v1.0.3.0), timer value is by default set to 15 seconds and can be changed through the Registry, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SQLDev.Net\SQL Job Manager\1.0  REG_DWORD RefreshInterval

  • Added -UnInstall command line option that removes the Registry values (v1.0.3.0)

Change log:
